NCAR movie -- "Two Niner Juliet"
In 1971 the NCAR Communications office in collaboration with the NCAR Cloud Physics Group produced the 16 mm movie “Two-Niner Juliet”. The movie gives an excellent overview of the sailplane operation, photos of the sailplane, personnel and instruments and a feel of what was involved in flying Explorer. It shows Vim Tpoutenhoofd, pilot, and Ted Cannon, observer, as they prepare for takeoff of Explorer from Jefferson County Airport (now Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport) for a high altitude flight into a wave cloud in winter.
