SANDHILLS

Nebraska Sandhills Surface Roughness Experiment

PROJECT DATES
08/20/1980
Project Location
Sandhills terrain, Nebraska
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Nebraska Sandhills Surface Roughness Experiment (SANDHILLS) collected measurements of wind speed, temperature and other parameters including pressure and geometric height, utilizing the NCAR QueenAir, A-80 aircraft in the boundary layer over the Nebraska Sandhills on August 20, 1980. This experiment was designed to study the impact of topography on turbulence in the boundary layer and to provide estimations of the effective roughness of the respective rolling terrain.
