AIDJEX I

Arctic Ice Dynamics Joint EXperiment I

PROJECT DATES
07/19/1975 - 07/27/1975
Project Location
Naval Arctic Research Laboratory (NARL), Point Barrow, Alaska
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Arctic Ice Dynamics Joint EXperiment (AIDJEX) was designed to obtain the fundamental data needed to construct boundary layer and ice dynamics models for the Arctic Ocean. An in-depth comprehension of the dynamics of this region is important for successful large-scale modeling of weather, understanding of long-term climatic changes and providing the necessary information essential to the pending development and use of this area. Since air stress is the basic driving force in the ice and ocean motion, accurate measurements to this end were needed. This project took place in two phases: July 19-27, 1975 and Feb 7-17, 1976
