EOL External Advisory Committee

IN MEMORIAM: Dr. Peter Fox

EOL mourns the loss of Dr. Peter Fox, our friend, colleague and a trusted member of our External Advisory Committee.

On Saturday, 27 March 2021, the science community lost Dr. Peter Fox, a colleague, teacher, mentor, and dear friend. A well-respected leader in information technology and data science, Peter was kind and generous with a great sense of humor and willingness to help others. He died a very accomplished man and left behind a strong legacy.

Peter previously served as the Chief Computation Scientist at NCAR High Altitude Observatory, and as a research scientist at Yale. From 2008 till the time of his death, he worked at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as a professor and as the Tetherless Constellation Chair. For more detailed information on Dr. Fox’s many accomplishments, here are links to two additional articles by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and Earth System Information Partners (ESIP).

Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with Peter's family and friends. With this tragic reminder of how fragile life is, honor his memory by aspiring to spread kindness and joy like he did. With the time he had, he truly made the world a better place and inspired those around him to do the same. He will be missed.

Please share your thoughts and tributes to Peter on the kudoboard that was created in his honor.
