Driving directions to Walden from NCAR/FLAB

(All distances are approximate from a map, not from my odometer)

Fort Collins route:

(The "normal" way; several variations are possible) ~152 miles total

• NE on Hwy 119 ~4 miles; turn right
• E on Hwy 52 ~11 miles; cross I-25; turn left
• N on I-25 34 miles; exit 269; turn left
• W on Hwy 14 ~14 miles through Ft. Collins; turn left to stay on Hwy 14 at Conoco Station.
• W on Hwy 14 another ~89 miles to Main Street in Walden.

Berthoud pass route:

(A good way) ~142 or 153 miles total

• S on 93 to Golden (I'll leave it to you to figure out how to get on 93.) (~18 miles); turn:
• (right) W on 6 to I-70 W (~10 miles) -OR-
• (left) E on 6 (~2 miles); turn right; S on Heritage Road (~1 miles); bend right; S on 40 to I-70 W (~2 miles)
• W on I-70 to exit 232 (12 or 28 miles depending on previous turn); exit right;
• N on 40, 2 miles past Granby (~46 miles); turn right
• N on 125 (~56 miles). Note that this passes the site ~4 miles before Walden.

Masonville route:

(The shortest way from Boulder, but take the Gazetteer to find your way through the back roads! No stop lights between Hwy 119 and Walden!) ~129 miles total

• NE on Hwy 119 ~5 miles; turn left
• W on Niwot Road ~0.5 miles; turn right
• N on 73rd (later 75th) St 8 miles; cross Hwy 66
• N on 75th 2 miles; turn right
• E on 4 Rd 1 mile; turn left
• N on 83rd 4 miles; road bends to right
• E on 6 Rd 0.5 mile; road bends to left
• N on 23 Rd 1 mile; turn left
• N on Hwy 56 2 miles; turn left
• W on 12 Rd, becomes 29 Rd ~8 miles; turn right
• E on Hwy 34 1 mile; turn left
• N on 27 Rd ~5 miles to Masonville; turn left
• N on 27 Rd ~13 miles; bend to right becomes Stove Prairie Rd
• N on Stove Prairie ~8 miles; left on Hwy 14
• W on Hwy 14 another ~70 miles to Main Street in Walden.

Laramie route:

(The least hassle with a truck and not MUCH longer.) ~200 miles total

• NE on Hwy 119 ~4 miles; turn right
• E on Hwy 52 ~11 miles; cross I-25; turn left
• N on I-25 ~64 miles to Wyoming border; another ~8 miles to I-80
• W on I-80 ~47 miles to (third?) Laramie exit (312?)
• SW on Hwy 230; becomes Hwy 127 in Colorado ~51 miles; turn left
• S on Hwy 125 ~15 miles to 14 intersection [Texaco(?) Station at NE corner]

The route through Rocky Mountain Park is closed in winter.

Driving directions to the FLOSS site from Walden:

• S (left) on Main Street 1 block; turn right
• W, then S after ~6 blocks on Hwy 125 ~3 miles; just past "Wildife Tour" sign turn right (into Arapahoe Wildlife Refuge). Ignore "Road Closed" sign.
• W ~1 mile, then SSW ~1.5 mile on dirt road; directly towards big barn and 78' tower;
• Park near semi-trailer.

Driving directions to the Chedsey Motel from Walden:

• N (right) on Main Street 1 block; turn right.
