The airborne Fast Response Ozone instrument was developed for certified deployment on the NSF/NCAR Gulfstream V research aircraft. The NSF/NCAR GV, with a roughly 15 km operational ceiling and a nominal air speed of 200 m/s, has provided unique opportunities for the characterization of under-sampled regions of the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UT/LS). The HAIS fast ozone instrument was designed to meet the needs of the UT/LS science community to investigate two-way stratosphere/troposphere exchange, gravity wave or other tropopause perturbations, and turbulence over a range of smaller scales perhaps induced by deep convection {Lane, 2003 #46; Pavelin, 2002 #47}.

The chemiluminescence ozone instrument has also been included in campaigns investigating Air Quality, Photochemistry, and Climate on GV and C130.
