About Data Services

The EOL Data Management & Services (DMS) Facility offers the observational research community comprehensive mission planning, data management, archival, and stewardship services to NSF and non-NSF funded research teams throughout the lifetime of a field project (pre field, during the field, and post field phases). 

 

EOL/DMS Data Management Services Offered

Customized data management planning and support
  • Creation of a project webpages that provides links to:
    • Project Description
    • Data Policy
    • Operations plans
    • Data and metadata submission instructions
    • DOI guidance for authors
    • Links to meeting presentations and publications
    • Other project-related websites and documentation
  • Production of operational and/or research sounding composites interpolated to standard levels as specified by the science team.
  • Sounding BUFR files to the GTS.
Field Campaign data archiving in the EOL Field Data Archive 
  • Enforced embargo periods with password protection
  • Long-term archival of observational and operational datasets for discovery and access
  • Long-term data stewardship and curation that include maintaining collections of project documentation and dataset metadata
  • Assignment of dataset DOI's
  • Collection and archiving of specified operational datasets needed by the PI, which may include satellite, radar, upper-air, surface observations, etc.
  • Storage of all data and accompanying metadata on NCAR storage systems and data back up
Real-time mission planning with the EOL Field Catalog 
  • Reporting tools for documenting project operations
  • Collection of specified operational datasets needed by the PI, which may include satellite, radar, upper-air, surface observations, etc.
  • GIS-based tool called Catalog Maps which allows users to overlay various products, such as instrument locations or flight plans for situational awareness and real-time decision-making on the ground and onboard research aircrafts
  • Real-Time Communications
  • Acquisition of research products, model output plots, instrument status updates and mission reports
  • Long-term ingest monitoring to ensure data stream interruptions are minimized
  • Post-Mission and Post-Campaign Review

Data Management and Services (DMS) welcomes requests from NSF and non-NSF research agencies. 

Note that EOL Data Services can be requested on its own. They do not have to be tied to an EOL instrument/platform request.  

  • NSF requests for data services can be made through PRESTO
  • Requests can also be submitted through our Google Request Form for EOL Data Management and/or Field Catalog services
