The Workshop Steering Committee is soliciting contributions to the program on several specific topics. Please consider contributing your ideas.
Workshop Objectives
The NSF NCAR Radar Technology Community Workshop aims to unite scientists and engineers from academia and national laboratories, as well as representatives from federal agencies and industry, in a collaborative effort to:
- Assess the current state of atmospheric radar systems
- Identify and prioritize the radar measurement capabilities needed by the research community to advance scientific understanding
- Explore the maturity and feasibility of emerging technologies in digital receiver and exciter, antenna, and artificial intelligence
- Develop actionable recommendations to advance radar capabilities, operations, software, data integration, and workforce development
Participants will engage through presentations, discussions, and breakout sessions, contributing to these vital topics.
The broader impacts of this workshop are significant:
- Provision of a thorough assessment of the current state and future potential of radar technologies
- Establishing community-driven priorities to enhance existing radar capabilities and seamlessly integrate new technologies to advance our research
- Offering strategic guidance to NCAR and EOL on the advancement and implementation of next-generation radar technologies for both ground-based and airborne platforms
Travel Support
Limited funding is available to support travel and registration for U.S.-based students attending the NSF NCAR-sponsored 2026 Radar Technology Community Workshop. Eligible applicants include undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers.
Funded participants may be asked to take an active role in the workshop, such as serving as rapporteurs during sessions or assisting with various logistics activities.
Participants will be notified of funding approval on a first come, first serve basis with final requests accepted February 6, 2026. Late applications will be considered as funds remain.
