95: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Tue 13-Apr-2004 00:22:26 GMT, problem with solar camblell
Data from solar campbell has been noisy and missing today. It seemes that
the SC32A opto isolator is the problem. We switched it with the unit
in the surface met campbell, and the problem moved with it.

The symptom can be seen in the character printout in the campbell
window. Characters are garbled, causing the line to either be
rejected entirely, or for some data fields to be misread. The problem
sometimes occurs frequently, at other times it is very intermittant.

It may be temperature related; today it has been hotter inside the
MISS camper than usual.

68: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Fri 26-Mar-2004 20:13:49 GMT, Surface met now on fiber
Switched surface met link from freewaves to optical fibre at about 20UT.

On FOMs one end has fibre 1 going in to TX and 2 going into RX, but the other end has the reverse.

Surface met did appear to be down for an hour from about 15UT. Hopefully this change will fix the problem.
62: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Thu 25-Mar-2004 02:12:49 GMT, Surface met outage
Surface met out for about 5 hours from 16UT, appears to restarted by itself. Voltage drops on both Campbells - perhaps another power outage?
60: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Wed 24-Mar-2004 13:17:19 GMT, Surface Met Campbell reset
Surface met out about 1030 UT for an hour.
Reset modem and Campbell to get it working again.

54: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Tue 23-Mar-2004 11:06:18 GMT, Campbell Problems
Surface_met Campbell:

The surface met Campbell did not report data from about 15Z to 20Z. It is unclear whether the problem was with the data logger or with the freewave. It magically fixed itself without intervention from operators. The battery voltage on both Campbells dropped from about 13.5V to 13V during the outage - perhaps there was a power problem during that time.

Surface_two Campbell:

This afternoon Kyle reported that the data logger in the surface two Campbell felt very warm to touch and he was seeing many "24 fileds instead of 23" or similar messages. The camper was also very warm in the afternoon sun, so perhaps overheating could be the source of some of the problems with that system. We'll keep the door of that Campbell open and may add a fan to see if that helps.

52: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Mon 22-Mar-2004 01:55:06 GMT, Surface two problem
Half hour outage on surface_two Campbell which records radiation data.

Event logger showing messages like "1 instead of 23 data fields" and at 0123Z (when it seems to have stopped, an end of pipe message.

Jiggled and tightened serial cable at Campbell and stop and restarted the ingest and now it seems okay.
43: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Thu 18-Mar-2004 00:23:52 GMT, Surface Met Campbell problem
Problem with surface met Campbel again.
Down 17 Z - 20 Z.

Symptoms were no communications and then when we reset the freewave, some garbage characters. Swapped CR10X data logger with replacement unit and then it worked okay from 20 Z.

40: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Tue 16-Mar-2004 23:25:48 GMT, Surface Met Campbells fixed
Replaced power module in surface met Campbell. Old data logger (a CR10X) appears to have reset itself and is now working. Probably power spikes on the old power module were disrupting the data logger. Data okay from about 2315Z.

The data logger in surface two (radiation) has also been replaced and that Campbell is functioning normally. Data okay from about 21Z.

37: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Tue 16-Mar-2004 01:29:17 GMT, Surface Met data outage cont.
Surface met still out. Now radiation measurements also out after testing data logger in 10m tower Campbell. After reinstalling that logger in the radiation Campbel, it also is producing a corrupted data stream. Suspect either a major comms problem, or perhaps spikes on tower power supply.

Mike sending more equipment.

34: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Mon 15-Mar-2004 03:05:30 GMT, Surface Met#1 (10-m tower) data outage
Beginning at 00:30Z March 15, the surface met data from the tower stopped.
The campbell window is downloading the software over and over, with no success.
We disconnected/reconnected the D9 connector to the modem. No effect.
We cycled the power at the Campbell battery. No effect.
Stopped and restarted Zebra. No effect.
Note the transformer is still making a buzzing noise inside the Campbell box.
Rebooted the display manager. No effect.
Called Lou. No effect.

Bill or Lou can finish the log entry. Gotta go.

24: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Mon 08-Mar-2004 22:39:22 GMT, surface down
Surface met died again last night after putting a new battery in system late in the afternoon.
Tests
9:05 local 12.1vdc on battery disconnected fan
12:20 12:12vdc reconnected fan disconnected freewave
2:10 12.38vdc
2:30 changed out charger with the one running the KVH turned everything back on battery at 12:37vdc.
Wonder if its the freewave causeing the problem as last night lost data at approx 12.1vdc still well above the campbells point were it loses the program.
After changing out charger and restarting cr10 noticed battery voltage still dropping.Took the power cube from the KVH.then ran an extension cord to tower and plugged freewave in that way. Battery voltaqge does appear to be slowly increaseing.Tomorrow may swap KVH freewaves with sruface met and see if that makes a difference. The reason is the freewavw in the cr10 got soaked in transit which is why from now on for transporting the system any distance we will remove the cr10 from the tower.

So surface met down for periods due to failure and to testing.
22: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Sun 07-Mar-2004 23:12:33 GMT, No NETRAD at MISS
Note that, although there is a netrad data stream at MISS, the data is not
considered accurate. This sensor is not deployed and the data stream should
be disconnected.
18: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Sun 07-Mar-2004 16:55:05 GMT, surface down
surface met was down from approx 01:00 z on 7th til approx 22:00. Several various problms were found One was low battery voltage 8.5v. Went through all cabling.
Replaced battery with one from KVH at 12.73v. Put low battery from CR-10 onto KVH charger and it came seems to be charging. May have something draging cr-10 down. Keep an eye on voltage.

17: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Sat 06-Mar-2004 22:05:02 GMT, Surface down
surface met appears to have gone down between 02:00 and 08:30z of the 6th. I can't find any reason for this as it did come back.
13: SURFACE, Site MISS IND ARPT, Fri 05-Mar-2004 21:02:55 GMT, Surface met March 5
No surface met from about 01Z Mar 5 until 16:30.
Another data outage from 18Z until 20:30.

Some or all of this maybe due to the display manager computer disk
becomming full.

Note that the NetRAD sesnor is not deployed.
10: SURFACE, Site MISS Mine, Wed 03-Mar-2004 18:34:36 GMT, Surface met from MISS Mine site (Mazurka road)
The Mine site has a big hill to the WSW which will bias the 10-m tower wind
direction, and probably speed also.
