10: SURFACE, Site MISS Mine, Wed 03-Mar-2004 18:34:36 GMT, Surface met from MISS Mine site (Mazurka road)
The Mine site has a big hill to the WSW which will bias the 10-m tower wind
direction, and probably speed also.
9: SOUNDING, Site MISS Mine, Wed 03-Mar-2004 18:07:49 GMT, Sounding #1 18Z March 3 IOP#1 from Mine site (Mazurka road)

8: DAILY, Site MISS Mine, Wed 03-Mar-2004 16:25:59 GMT, Daily Wednesday March 3, 2004 IOP #1
IOP from 16Z to 21Z (8am-1pm LT)

NOTE: ISS parameter file's site name and lat/lon were not adjusted while
at Mine site.

ISS was started at the Old Mine site (Mazurka Canyon) at 16Z
Windy at the surface,about 9 m/s from 315 deg at 16Z.
Profiler is running 6 beam mode TURB_105. Some clutter to 1km but
not bad. NIMA should clean it up later.
Clear, sunny, and chilly this morning.

Gary took a photo panorama of this site.

Surface: Winds were steady at 9 m/s from 16-18Z, then a continuous drop
to only 2 m/s from 18-21Z.Wind direction from about 310 for the entire time.
T rising slowly this morning from 6C to 12Z. Tdew steady at -2C.

Profiler: We learned that the TURB mode may have a wider Nyquist than we
need, but save it in case there is a strong strong event. Next time use
CLR_105 or CLR_60 modes. POP winds light (biased by cluter?). Highest speeds
around 7 m/s at 1.5 km 16-17Z. Winds below 700 m were generally from the NW
while above were more Northerly. Some winds at 2.5km and above but these are
all from clutter. RASS ok to 500 m more or less.
Pressure was falling slowly during the IOP, from 885 to 882 mb.Solar radiation
shows the cloudless day.
Profiler SOAP 30-m winds are similar to POP. 10-min consensus has more outliers.
Nothing too noticable in the radial velocity contour plots, but it may be worth
a closer look later.
Sounding at 18Z had NNW winds for the lowest ~2km and NE above. Dry layer
800-600 mb (actually prety dry everywhere) T'pause around 225 mb or so.

7: RADAR, Site MISS Mine, Wed 03-Mar-2004 16:24:20 GMT, Profiler ON March 3
Profiler turned on for IOP#1 16Z March 3 at Old Mine site (Mazurka Canyon Rd)

16:00 Running TURB_105 with 30 min cns and 5 min RASS. Some clutter in all
beams, sometimes up to 1 km. NIMA should help.

18:15Z With surface wind speeds of 10 m/s we are getting clutter in all beams
along with some signal. POP is missing the signal at times so the POP winds
will be low and wrong. I hope NIMA will do better when we can post-process.

From this site there is persistant clutter at 3 km from the Inyo mountains to
the east. Also clutter 1 km, sometimes higher, often lower.

Profiler parmaeter set (TURB_105):105m and NCODE=4;
We don't really need the TURB mode since the spectra are not broad. (I won't
change it during the IOP)

Profiler beam directions/sequence
 xV21 196 90
 y-S26 286 69
 x-W37 16 69
 yv22 106 90
 y+N38 106 69
 x+E29 196 69

At 19Z the surface wind speed dropped ti about 4 m/s and clutter improved.
RASS also greatly improved.

PROFILER OFF at 21:05.
Time to backup, teardown and setup again at the Independence airport.

PROFILER ON at 00:29 at Independence airport. Running CLR_60 mode this time.
We should see how the better resolution does, though less sensitive than 105m.
Angles here are very close to before (first Indy deployment had front
Y+ = 104; Minde deployment at 106; now back at Indy and 103).

Note also that profiler integrator card or cable still fails occasionally.
We installed the replacement cable, and tomorrow will try the spare card.
