NSF FARE Users’ Workshop

September 18–22, 2023
Boulder, Colorado

The NCAR Earth Observing Laboratory and the University of Wyoming are pleased to announce the 2023 NSF Facilities for Atmospheric Research and Education (FARE) Users’ Workshop, which will be held in Boulder, Colorado on 18-22 September 2023.

The workshop seeks to bring together experienced and novice members of the NSF-funded research community who share an interest in ground-based and airborne observations in support of atmospheric sciences and related disciplines. The five-day workshop will consist of two distinct parts: FARE Process and FARE Future. The goals of FARE Process are to increase community awareness of the expanded NSF FARE Program, which includes the Lower Atmosphere Observing Facilities (LAOF) and the Community Instruments and Facilities (CIF), to familiarize the community and especially new users with the Facilities and Instrument Request Process (FIRP) solicitation and associated proposal submission tracks; and to provide broad guidance on how to successfully submit scientific proposals that require access to FARE assets. The goal of FARE Future is to continue community discussions regarding science drivers, emerging technologies in observations, and community needs for new capabilities as part of FARE to prepare for the next decade of observational inquiry and discovery. More broadly, this workshop will provide opportunities to form and strengthen partnerships and sustained, innovative collaboration across users taking advantage of FARE.

The meeting agenda will include keynotes, contributed short-format talks and posters, breakout sessions, training sessions, networking events, facility tours, and ample time for discussions focused on research priorities, critical needs, and communities of practice. Throughout the workshop, users will be encouraged to ask questions, share their experiences, and express their needs for the future. In order to maximize participation, the workshop will be conducted in a hybrid fashion.

This workshop is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation. Travel support is available for a limited number of early career and MSI/PUI participants. Application details for travel support will be coming soon.

We hope to see you in Boulder!
