Inhibition of Snowfall by Pollution Aerosol - Feb 2001
This is an NSF funded project being carried with the
Desert Research Institute's
Storm Peak Laboratory
(SPL) at Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
The project is examining the effect of pollution aerosols on snowfall rate.
The principal investigators at SPL are Randy Borys and Doug Lowenthal,
and at NCAR the main investigators are Steve Cohn and Bill Brown.
NCAR is deploying
MAPR,
an advanced wind profiler which will be used in this project
to make high resolution measurements of snowfall distribution
and wind.
We are also deploying an array of surface meteorology instruments
and radiosonde weather balloons.
