May 26, 1987 to November 10, 1989
Project Location:
Konza Preserve near Manhattan, Kansas
Project Description:

The First ISLSCP (International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project) Field Experiment (FIFE) support consisted of 8 PAM II stations.  SSF supported the NASA/NSF field project continuously since April 1987.  The primary objective of FIFE was to measure surface fluxes of heat, moisture, and trace species across the inhomogeneous rolling terrain of the Konza Preserve and environs near Manhattan, Kansas.  The surface fluxes were used as ground truth for the development and evaluation of algorithms to estimate fluxes from satellite observations.
