Visit two research aircraft - the NSF/NCAR C-130 and the University of Wyoming King Air - that are involved in a study to better understand the chemistry of wildfire smoke. These “flying laboratories” will be based in Boise from 22 July - 31 August 2018 and will conduct research flights between 1,000 and 28,000 feet. The aircraft are fully equipped with a suite of instruments to measure aerosols, chemistry, and cloud microphysics as well as scientists on-board to operate the sensors.
At the event, you'll have the opportunity to:
» Get on board and explore the research aircraft.
» Learn about the impacts wildfires has on the environment and public health.
» Talk with mission scientists, engineers, and other project staff.
» Visit the UCAR Center for Science Education booth to explore and understand our changing world (fun for kids of all ages!)
For safety reasons, please bring no more than 3 children per adult, and wear closed-toe shoes.
