Usage
Make your selections in the frame to the left. Submit your
selections when complete. If this tool is working correctly, the last
half-hour of available images should be ready to load-up.
Be sure to set your internet connection type. Connection
speed is important, and improper setting will cause dropped frames.
Be aware that not all browsers are compatible with this tool.
About this project
- The valid range of dates/times for these images is
discontinuous, with the general range from about 03-Feb-2004
through 31-Mar-2004. While you can select to see images from
the entire period of collection, it is recommended that you
restrict your selection to a few days at a time.
- The images available through this tool are best viewed over a
fast internet connection. The movie loop images have
not been compressed (and for noisy radar images, there is
little compression without thresholding), so viewing over a
dial-up is possible, but not a lot of fun.
- Images viewed here are available on CD, DVD, or
by ftp, complete with the image viewing software.
Compatibility testing
This tool has been tested and found to work with the following
browser/operating system pairs:
- Mozilla / RedHat Linux 7.0
- Mozilla / WindowsXP Professional
- IE6.0 / WindowsXP Professional
- Netscape4.79 / WindowsXP Professional
- Netscape6.2 / WindowsXP Professional
- Netscape7.0 / WindowsXP
- Netscape6.2.2 / Solaris 5.8 (or Solaris8)
This tool has been found to fail under:
- Netscape 4.76 / Windows
- Netscape 4.7 / Solaris
- Netscape 6.01 / Solaris
Obviously, there are many untested browser/OS pairs. There are
currently no plans to fix the noted Netscape/Solaris incompatibilities.
About this viewer tool
- This is a fairly generic image viewing tool. Images displayed are static
images (likely formats are .png, .gif, .jpg). The tool can be used for
display of time-ordered data images, or for display of time-lapse photos
(web cam photos, for example).
- This tool is written in JavaScript. All selection and
processing is done on the client-side from static data and
image files (this allows simple porting of work to CD or DVD).
- There are known bugs; a list may eventually be compiled.
- Usage Hints are being developed.
- The code used for this tool will receive incremental upgrades.
Check the ATD web (under this project) for the latest code.
- This tool does not pre-load images, and runs only as fast as
an image can be loaded into your browser.
