Click on this
icon to get a
good summary of radar data for the period of the data tape. Note that
these movies may be long! (2 to 4 Mbytes is not unusual). Also note
that a given movie may actually extend into the time period of the
next tape in the list; no icon will then appear for this next tape (if
you think you want to view a movie for a given tape, but the icon is
not present, try using the loop for the preceding tape).Movies can be provided on tape media for users who desire their own copy, or in cases where lack of sufficient network bandwidth makes access a torment.
For WISP94, images are compiled from .5 degree surveillance scans at 10 minute intervals. The images have been processed into movies using MPEG routines. Note that there is some loss of detail during this processing, and on occasion, artifacts have been introduced by the MPEG routines. Additionally, note that the times shown on the images are not necessarily accurate (in some cases, they are off by about 10 minutes), and that there are frequently scan glitches near 90 degrees azimuth; both of these problems are associated with shortcuts taken to prepare the data for on-line access, and should not be interpreted as reflecting real problems with the archived dataset.
For some of the WISP94 movie loops, the location of Boulder, Stapleton International Airport, and Downtown Denver are shown by the letters B, S, and D, respectively.
These images are meant to serve as a quick overview of radar data collected during a field project. The images represent degraded data that are not suitable for quantitative analysis! Full resolution radar data and the software required to process these data are available from the National Center for Atmospheric Research, Research Data Program of the Atmospheric Technology Division.
