All information on the WVSS program can now be
found in the
documents available at this website.
A future
document by
Fleming and May (2004) will be
available on this website when the WVSS-II has
been certified by the FAA (April, 2004).
A new document is the attached report "Summary
of Atmospheric Water
Information from Sensors on Commercial Aircraft: Measuring Relative
Humidity
Versus Mixing Ratio" (Fleming, February 1, 2004).
This document summarized the main reasons that the
government has rejected the WVSS-I (measuring relative humidity) in
favor of
the WVSS-II (measuring water vapor mixing ratio). The
WVSS-II is shown to be superior to the WVSS-I in every
technical category and is the only system that United Parcel Service
has agreed
to carry on their aircraft.
