The preferred format for NAMAP2 spatial fields is a set of 3-hourly time series of 2-dimensional (lat-lon) fields, concatenated into calendar monthly files so that there are 8x30 (or 31) fields per file, per variable. Partial months at the beginning or end of the run will obviously be shorter. Please use GRIB-compatible output.
