Using the Password Tab in GUImaint
To Password Protect a Dataset
- Back on the Description tab, make sure "Password req'd" is checked
- On the Password tab
- Choose from the Login names in the dropdown box
- Type the data set ID into the text box of the password page
- Click on the Post button
- Click on the Save button
- That data set now has the password used with that login name
- Passwords are associated with Login names
- Each Login name has its own password
To Edit the Login Names and Passwords (rarely done)
- Click on the toggle button which is labeled "Click Twice to Edit Login/Password"
- if not used before, the first time wakes it up
- subsequent clicks toggle the button state
- Clicking on a name from the dropdown box in the Login name area directly above will change the Login and Password displayed in the text areas of the Password section
- Clicking in either the Login Name or Password text box will give the focus to the data_passwd table, and activate the boxes on the Navigation Tool Bar to ditto, post, save, etc.
- If you change the displayed Login or Password, you are "Updating"
- If Updating, the original Login and/or Password are changed
- If the Login Name is changed, the data sets using that login name will no longer be accessible until each is linked to the new login name
- An updated or newly created login name will not be visible in the Login Name dropdown box until the GUImaint is restarted
- Run /usr/local/codiac/bin/codiac_pswds from the command line on ingest
- it is necessary to run codiac_pswds after changes in the passwords database table (data_passwd)
- this encrypts the new password.
- it is not necessary to run codiac_pswds after associating a dataset with an already existing Login Name
