Session objective: Provide a broad background for issues related to MJO initiation and Indian Ocean coupled processes; review the progress made in regard of the MJO study and related issued since TOGA COARE; highlight similarities and distinctions between TOGACOARE and the 2011-12 Indian Ocean MJO field campaign.

Session objective: To have a synthesized view of this MJO event from all observing platform, models, and large-scale diagnostics, and to prepare observational data for an international model case study focusing on this case using GCMs, CRMs, and LAMs.

Session objective: Discusses research topics that need further attention and coordinated efforts

  • (i) update status of data QC, archive, and release
  • (ii) summarize the main outcome of the workshop;

  • (iv) make recommendations to funding agencies regarding the best way to support post-field research.
