Instructions for Submitting Data to the Archive
At the Topeka meeting, it was agreed that all PIs would provide their
data to the archive in netCDF format or ASCII. If data was provided in a
format other than netCDF the PI submitting the data was responsible for
also submitting software which could read their data and convert it to
netCDF. It was also agreed that all datasets would contain date/time
references in UTC date/time (YYYYMMDDHHMMSS.xxxx, where xxxx is fraction
of seconds).
In addition to the dataset being submitted, each PI needs to also
supply a README file for their dataset. This file should be in plain
ASCII text format and should describe important details about the data
and instrumentation including:
1) Author and/or source of the data
2) Complete description of the sensors used in the data collection
3) Complete description of any derived parameters contained in the
dataset
4) Specific definition of the sample time period (hourly, continuous,
etc.) for each variable contained in the dataset.
5) Specify the units for each measured or derived parameter
6) Document the version number/release date
7) Minimize the reference to specific dataset file names. They may be
modified by the relational database system and file transfer protocols
8) A description of the quality control done on the data
Within the data files themselves, there should also be header
information describing each parameter along with the units of each.
To submit data to the CASES-99 Data archive, you can ftp by:
ftp ftp.joss.ucar.edu (anonymous login, e-mail for passwd)
cd pub/incoming/cases99
bi (set to binary tranfer mode)
(Then just move your data files over)
After you've done this please send e-mail to me gstoss@ucar.edu to
let me know that you've sent data.
To mail tapes, CD, etc. to us:
