Hi All,
We are nearing the half-way mark for AIRS-2, both in terms of dates in the field
and in terms of flight hours.
Today the C-130 completed a mission to Mirabel, where a thin stratocumulus deck
was found, very much as per the forecast. Cloud top was at about +0.5 degrees,
and negative temperatures were only found very close to the surface. The
aircraft made a number of horizontal traverses and two spiral descents, leading
to missed approaches to allow for flying at very low level.
Drizzle was not ver pronounced, and the aerosol composition showed large spatial
variability from very dirty air to very clean air.
The plan for Wednesday 19 November is:
8:30 AM Weather briefing in the airport.
Go/no-go decision for a flight into deep frontal clouds with
potential icing at high altitudes.
9:00 AM Aircraft out and power on, provided the decision is made to go.
11:00 AM Possible takeoff.
All the best, Jorgen
