Hi All,
Today the C-130 did an aerosol flight in air which is expected to be over
Mirabel Tuesday at 1 PM, assumin the trajectory forecast from Ben Bernstein and
the other RAP forecasters.
Todays flight, RF07, was done between Syracuse and Watertown, immediately east
of Lake Ontario. There were several layer clouds encountered from near the
surface to 7000 ft. The clouds contained no ice (at least we didn't observe
any), but vigorous drizzle was observed in many parts. Flight legs fro aerosol
sampling was done in between and above the cloud legs, but the situation was
somewhat complicated as the layers appeared affected by wave-like motion.
Data will be transfered to JeffCo on Tuesday morning.
The plan for Tuesday calls for a flight over Mirabel, provided the clouds are
sufficiently deep that the aircraft can make an extended horizontal traverse in
cloud, at altitudes above the minimum of 3000 ft. If cloud top is lower, then we
will not go ahead with the flight. The decision to go or not to go will be based
on a forecast update at 3:30 AM Tuesday. If conditions are suitable, then the
aircraft will be rolled out and 4 AM, and the scheduled take-off will be 6 AM.
The 3:30 AM weather briefing will take place in the upstairs room of the hotel.
