Call for Papers - Extended Abstracts

Extended abstracts can now be submitted. Please carefully read the instructions below and submit your papers by May 15.
Attendees with accepted papers are asked to prepare extended abstracts for the conference proceedings. We plan to provide both a printed proceedings book and a CD-ROM with the proceedings and additional material.

To control costs we will only be able to print two pages per paper in the book version (with black/white/grey scale figures), however we are able to provide space on the CD-ROM for additional material such as color figures. We recommend that authors prepare their papers as follows:

Write a two page extended abstract, and add an appendix for any additional information. We will print the first two pages in the book, and put the whole document (first 2 pages plus appendix) on the CD-ROM. The appendix may include more detail than was possible in the printed abstract, such as color figures, larger tables, additional text etc.

Formatting guidelines:
  • Submission format should be either as a Word document or PDF format.

  • Please name your document file with the paper number and lead author name. For example paper 8.28-P might be called 8_28_brown_etal.pdf . See the program for your paper number.

  • The first two pages will printed in the Proceedings book in black and white. We suggest you put color figures and additional material in an appendix after page two.

  • The Extended Abstract volume will be printed on *letter size* paper with a printed area of 6.75 in. x 8.6 in. (171.5 mm x 218.5 mm). For A4 paper, set margins to 19.25 mm left and right, 30.5 mm top and 48 mm bottom. For US standard letter size, set margins to 0.875 in. (22 mm) left and right and 1.2 in. (30.5 mm) top and bottom.

  • Text should be single spaced, 10 or 12-point Times Roman (or similar) and single column. The Title and headings may be larger fonts such as 12 or 14 pt as in the sample below.

  • Please put the paper number on the far left of the title line (see example below)

  • Title should be centered and bold (Not all Capitals, please);
    followed by a blank line;
    followed by authors and affiliations, centered and with the presenting author underlined;
    followed by a blank line;
    followed by the text (left justified)
    See below for an example of this layout

  • Do not include page numbers

  • The full document file (containing the 2-page preprint and appendix) should not exceed 3 MB

Please click here to start the submission process.
You will be asked to make up a username and password, and then login to a wiki web-page where you will be able to up-load ("Attach File") your extended abstracts. We prefer that you use the automated submission process, however if you run into problems with the process, you may email the paper as an attachment to istp2006@atd.ucar.edu

Note also that, for interested authors, we are planning a special issue of the Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology containing articles derived from papers presented. More information on this special issue will be disseminated well before the Symposium.

Here is an example of the recommended layout of the title section of the first page (this is a US letter page and the ruler units are mm). The MS word document that produced this example is available here (33 kB).
