In addition to the many natural amenities in and around Boulder, we have planned the following activities for conference participants.
Welcome Party
A welcome party and on-site registration will be held at the NCAR Mesa Laboratory on Sunday afternoon. While the
Mesa Lab is one of three campuses for NCAR staff and facilities, it is also a well known landmark designed by architect I. M. Pei. For those interested, there are a variety of hiking trails in back. We will have buses circulating from the conference hotels to the Welcome Party, or you may drive yourself
(directions to the Mesa Lab).
Fiske Planetarium Show
Tuesday evening we have arranged a special viewing for conference participants at the
Fiske Planetarium, the largest planetarium between Chicago and Los Angeles. Note that seating is limited and we have only a few extra tickets for accompanying persons. Please check at on-site registration if you desire additional tickets.
Conference Tour and Banquet
The conference tour (followed by the banquet) will take place on Wednesday afternoon.
Participants will take a bus tour to the city of Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. This natural wonder offers vistas of the breath-taking beauty of the alpine terrain.
We hope to have time to enjoy walking through the streets of the quaint mountain village of Estes Park.
Stop on your own for ice cream or visit the delicious candy stores as you discover unique shops and the trickling creek that runs alongside the streets, but don't spoil your appetite for the evening banquet.
Please bring comfortable shoes and a sweater/jacket for this tour.
Following this visit, buses will take us to the Conference Banquet at the
Red Lion Restaurant.
If you skip the Rocky Mountain Park trip, please make your own arrangements to arrive at this Restaurant which is a four mile drive up Boulder Canyon.
Afternoon Reception with Poster Session 3
Thursday afternoon we will host a reception during our final Poster Session. This is our largest poster session and we hope you will take time to browse all the available posters.
Friday Afternoon visit to Boulder Area Laboratories
While the exact destinations are not yet set, we have set aside Friday afternoon (following our Panel Discussion) for visits to local laboratories.
We may see profiling and other instruments from NCAR, NOAA, and local commercial products.
Saturday Excursion (optional)
On Saturday, June 17, following the conference we have arranged for an excursion to the mountain town of
Georgetown, Colorado,
and a ride on the historic Georgetown Loop Railroad.
This ride will also include a tour of the Lebanon Silver Mine.
(Please bring comfortable shoes and a sweater/jacket for this tour).
Following the ride, there will time for lunch on-your-own and browsing through the town and museums.
Highlights of this small town include historic hotels and museums, as well as an opportunity for wine tasting.
Registration for this tour is at extra cost, and should be done at the time of conference registration.
