VORTEX 95
Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment

The second field phase of VORTEX included four fixed CLASS systems and the SSSF Mobile CLASS. Fixed sites at Lubbock, TX; Altus, Woodward, and Ardmore, OK, flew a total of 400 flights. The Mobile CLASS made 120 flights. The data set from this experiment included extensive samplings in and around severe storms with and without tornados. The equipment and operators were subject to severe conditions several times. Despite these conditions, the data set for this experiment was very good supplementing unique airborne radar measurements.
