A Study of Mountain Wave Induced Rotors in the Owens Valley, CA

March - April, 2004

NCAR /ATD deployed two Integrated Sounding Systems ISS near Independence in the Owens Valley, California for the Desert Research Institute of Reno, Nevada. An ISS with MAPR was located 5 miles south of Independence. A mobile ISS (known as MISS) was located at various sites across the valley around Independence. Additionally, there was a mobile radiosonde sounding system (MGAOS) sited near Fresno. The project ran through March and April of 2004, and was a precursor to the larger T-REX project (ISS T-REX page) planned for spring, 2006. Please also see the DRI Sierra Rotors Home Page.
