- 92: RAIN, Site 2, Sun 23-Jun-1996 19:23:03 GMT, ETI Always drops Cal. Coef. on Power Cycles
ETI Check performed during station visit (see previous note).
Jerry Price said the ETI shouldn't lose it's coefficients unless the
battery voltage goes down slowly. Also, he wanted to see a higher voltage than
11.2, which i saw at station 1.
Voltage at Campbell and ETI: 13.3
Coefficients were definitely gone. Programmed them in. Cycled power by pulling
the 9-pin cable. Coef. dumped. Reconnected the ETI to the input power rather
than on the campbell take-off lugs. Programmed Coef. Cycled power. Same
results. Repeated by programming coef., cycling power using the main EVE box
switch, same results.
Conclusion, the ETI will dump it's cal coefficients on a power cycle.
ETI probably needs to put a delay into the decision about reprogramming the
coefficients during 'low-voltage' situations.

TRH Fan Replaced
This station had been having high temps. I found the fan was dead, and
wouldn't come back. This is the same site where similar problems
occurred earlier. I replaced the fan in the beehive....what a nuisance
to do.
EVE Not talking
I never got the Compaq to cooperate with EVE. It would see the EVE's
messages but apparently never got a xmt through. This had happened
quite a bit previously, all over, and had been attributed to low/hot
battery in the Compaq. Even after powering down the Compaq for awhile
and using the battery cable Matt sent, and recycling the Compaq, i
still never go into EVE. I didn't have a gender change to try the RJ45
direct console connection.
NOTE: that this station has been having Freewave difficulty as well, but
i think that's related to the lowered antenna at the base and a
different radio xmit characteristics table than normal being used with
these new replacement units.

EVE communications had been down at this site, both the console and the
Freewave weren't receiving input. The Freewave appeared to be powered down,
i.e. no lights. Tested the power connector and it was OK. Tied the serial into
the compaq and saw the polling messages. Plugged the entire box back together
and it all worked again. I'm not sure what happened because the EVE continued
to collect data and GOES report, but it would appear that the Freewave somehow
locked up which probably effected EVE's console as well.
GOES will be down for awhile at this station.
I managed to blow the main box fuse when testing for the Freewave power. The
take-off connector was taped so that hopefully this doesn't happen again.
However the only fuses on hand were 2.5A, not enough to run the entire station
plus the GOES transmits. Tomorrow a new fuse will be installed.

Due to a typo in sonic.config.S, the boom azimuth change on July 3rd of the
pam 2 sonic was not used in the the daily plots.
The S code looked like:
if (t2 > utime("1996 jul 3 16:30"))
booazm <- c(boomazm[1], 214.0, boomazm[3])
booazm was being set, instead of boomazm. As a result the azimuth change from
215.2 to 214.0 was not corrected for in the dailyplots from July 3rd to
July 9th.
The problem was noted and corrected on July 10th.
- 289: GOES / RF, Site 2, Thu 18-Jul-1996 16:05:27 GMT, PAM2 now using patch antenna
John M. called to tell us that PAM2 is transmitting too much power to GOES,
so we switched back to a patch antenna (from a yagi). Since John had problems
with the patch antenna on PAM2 earlier (which is why the yagi was installed),
I first swapped patch antennas on PAM1. So, the sequence was:
Station 1:
0951: measured original patch power: 8.7 forward/0.1 reflected
Swapped patch antennas (lost a nut in the process)
0956: measured new (PAM2 original) patch power: No change.
Station 2:
1027: measured yagi power: 7.6 forward/0.3 reflected
1032: possibly a bad transmission, since I was still struggling with
tightening the patch mount
1037: measured patch (PAM1 original) power: 10.7 forward/0.1 reflected
Hopefully, John will keep us advised.

I have been a bit worried that the Tddiff plots for the last 2 nights show

are continuing to do. Yesterday, Erik and I visited the site (while taking
pictures). We opened up the hygro and cleaned out a few bits of biota,
but it appeared to be okay. We reinstalled it, but also broke the top couple
of feet of the 4 corn plants which had grown up around the sensor in order
to give it some air flow. This doesn't seem to have affected the data last
