Scott is the technical lead for active optical remote sensing in the Earth Observing Laboratory. He was responsible for the research and design of the Raman-shifted Eye-safe Aerosol Lidar (REAL) – a high-pulse energy, eye-safe scanning lidar for measurement of aerosols and clouds. He is currently working on the optical design of an airborne holographic instrument that can be used to measure cloud particle size distributions. He is also developing a new instrument to measure wind velocities in the undisturbed flow ahead of the NCAR G5 aircraft. Furthermore, he continues to develop analytical models to calculate performance of future instruments based on the latest optical and laser technologies.
