Education and Outreach
EOL knows the weather is fascinating to people of all ages! As part of its mission, EOL promotes curiosity about earth science, and particularly fosters advanced understanding of the science and process of atmospheric research measurements. EOL accepts its responsibility to inspire the development of the next generation of observational scientists and engineers.
Educational Site Visits
Where ever we are deployed, our research sites are almost always open to visitors. EOL and project staff often invite local students to visit during special open house days before, during and after a field operation. We encourage undergraduate meteorology and other classes to visit for in-depth orientations on meteorology and engineering.
School Visits
EOL scientists frequently travel to local and regional schools to give demonstration on how to operate our observing instrumentation. This is a fun activity for students of any level, and the hands-on experience is invaluable. More complex or non-local university visits may also be requested (see "Request EOL Facilities for Education, right). Contact Kate Young for more information or to schedule a visit.
Education Newsletter
EOL sends a bi-annual newsletter highlighting facility- and field project-related educational activities and opportunities you may want to share with your colleagues and students. Sign up for our Email Newsletter.

Request EOL Facilities for Education
As of January 2008, a portion of the NSF Deployment Pool is available for educators wishing to gain access to observational facilities for classroom instructions and hands-on learning experience.
Submission of a proposal by students will also be accepted but require approval by a faculty advisor. Requests should not exceed $15,000 and educators must contact the relevant facility manager to discuss the proposed project, identify the appropriate time period and work on a feasibility and cost estimate.
