ATD Non-NSF Proposal
An Advance Notice Form is due to the Director’s Office 3 weeks before your proposal’s due date at the agency. To complete the Advance Notice Form we need:
- The following 5 questions answered (emphasize #3 if possible)
- A short abstract, including the title (email text to your Facility Administrator)
- A draft budget (please work with your Facility Administrator on this)
- A current & pending support from for each P.I. (see Division Office.)
Criteria for Non-NSF funded Activities: (The University Relations Committee reviews only the responses)
Please answer the following questions via an email to your Facility Administrator. Send only the answers (don’t duplicate the questions.)
1. Explain why the proposed activity is appropriate for the National Center and supports the mission
of NCAR. How does this support the current research in our division?
- Answer: “The proposed activity is appropriate for NCAR because our mission is to…” Then “We are seeking outside funds to…” (Hire staff, etc.)
2. Explain why the activity does not compete unfairly with universities.
- Answer: “This activity does not compete unfairly with the university community. NCAR will use the following facilities on the project: NCAR computers and desktop computers (all of which are available to the typical university user).”
3. University Collaborators: Listco-Principal Investigators and co-Investigators whose name appears on the proposal’s title page, along with their university affiliation. List what research the co-P.I.s will undertake.
- If non-title page university collaborators are listed, end your answer with: “We will provide
letters of collaboration from these researchers.”- If there are no university collaborators, answer: “Although the proposal does not include a university co-Principal Investigator at this time, the research will involve collaboration with the university community.”
4. Explain how the activity would contribute to the development or support of community models and would have demonstrable benefit to the community (especially if you don’t have a university co-PI.)
- Answer ends with: “The Community Climate System Model is recognized as a state-of-the-art model and is widely used by the university and national laboratory communities.”
5. Explain how the activity would support and enhance the regular NSF-sponsored NCAR program, leveraging regular NSF resources. Outline co-sponsorship in the proposal.
- Answer begins with: “This proposal would support and enhance the NSF-sponsored research within ATD by…”
- For co-sponsorship, answer: “NCAR will provide co-sponsorship in the form of some computing resources (from our division allocation) and some salary” or, if there is no co-sponsorship (e.g., NOAA), answer: “There
is no co-sponsorship in the proposal.” |
