Pilot-SoWMEX (Southwest Monsoon Experiment): An Introduction

A joint monsoon rainfall campaign (Southwest Monsoon Experiment: SoWMEX) has been conducted in East Asia on May and June 2007. Taiwan, Japan, and Korea are all participated in this joint effort. The purpose of this pilot experiment is to test the field design for SoWMEX 2008 and also to try out the communication and data management issues. Intensive observations including dropsonde, ship sounding, and island radars has been executed. In this Meiyu season, a continuous 7-days heavy rain event was captured by the network. Many interesting phenomena related to
monsoon rainfall are experienced. In the talk, some preliminary observation results will be presented and the impact of dropsonde on the numerical model outcome will be discussed.

This is a joint EOL/MMM Seminar.

Thursday July 12 at 3:30pm in FL2-1002.
