Lake-Induced Convection Experiment (Lake-ICE)

Project Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Project Dates: Winter 1997/98

Scientific Objective:
The primary goals of Lake-ICE are to determine the mechanisms which control the structure and evolution of mesoscale convective circulations in boundary layers over Lake Michigan and to determine interrelationships between these mesoscale circulations, fluxes throughout the depth of the boundary layer, and cloud and precipitation development. Additionally, Lake-ICE seeks to identify the processes by which heat and moisture fluxes from each of the Great Lakes augment large-scale atmospheric processes (including the development of Mesoscale Aggregate Vortices - MAVs).
