Community ServiceField ProjectsATD exemplifies NCAR’s community service function. ATD’s activities advance the community’s observational capabilities through the deployment of existing facilities and the development, sometimes over many years, of new instrumentation and platforms. For more information on this critical service ATD provides to the Atmospheric Research community, please visit the Field Projects page of this report. Community ResearchIn addition to our state-of-the-art observing facilities, field support and data services, ATD plays another important role in the atmospheric research community - that of collaborative scientific research and analysis of data gathered from field projects. In FY 04, ATD collaborated with scientists from all over the globe to further understand such atmospheric phenomena as terrain-induced waves and rotors, airflow across rugged terrain, turbulance and fluxes in the boundary layer, ambient formaldehyde, and ice propagation. For more detail, visit our ATD Achievements - Research page.
