Mission and Goals

The primary goals of ATD's Design and Fabrication Services (DFS) are to provide engineering design service through the Mechanical Design Group, instrument and equipment fabrication service through the Machine Shop, and logistics and maintenance support through the Logistics Group. The Mechanical Design Group often participates in project efforts by contributing staff to the development team. The Machine Shop performs precision machining, welding, sheet-metal work, and assembly and repair service. The Logistics Group provides forklift, crane, and local trailer-towing services, fabrication assistance, equipment maintenance and repair, and logistical support for field projects. DFS provides service to all NCAR/UCAR divisions, as well as to the university community when appropriate.

Activities of the Past Year

Major development efforts during FY 1997 in which DFS played a significant role are listed below. The name of the project manager and his/her organization are also shown.

Machine Shop support was distributed among the various customer groups as shown in Table DFS-1 below.
