EDO

- Experiment Design Overview. It applies to large or complex research programs that exceed $1 Million. The purpose of the EDO is to describe the overall concept of the experimental design, resource needs and management of the field campaign. Guidelines for writing the EDO are contained in “Policy, Procedures and Guidelines for Science Programs that require Field Facilities” (17 May 2006). The EDO will have to be submitted to the LAOF Program Manager at NSF and EOL with an electronic copy to the relevant Facility Managers and NSF Program Officers. Please note that the PIs listed on the EDO should be the same as the ones listed on the SPO.

- Scientific Program Overview. The document applies to large or complex research programs that exceed $1 Million. The purpose of the SPO is to establish the overall scientific justification of the program. Guidelines for writing an SPO are summarized in “Policy, Procedures and Guidelines for Science Programs that require Field Facilities” (17 May 2006). The SPO will have to be submitted in the form of a formal proposal to NSF via Fastlane following the requirements specified in the NSF Grant Proposal Guide (http://www.nsf.gov/pubsys/ods/getpub.cfm?gpg).
