Data Services

NSF’s platforms and instruments collect large and often unique data sets that must be validated, archived and made available to the research community. By adhering to accepted standards in data formats and data services, NCAR provides infrastructure to facilitate direct software access to EOL data from state-of-the-art commercial and locally-developed software applications. This enormous library of existing and emerging applications provides enhanced utility and ease of use of these data to the community. EOL manages a comprehensive archive of all data acquired through its research observing systems for a period of at least five years after acquisition. To foster scientific research, data are provided to the research community as quickly as possible, most often via the Internet, but also on tape or CD.

NCAR/EOL Data Archive:
EOL/CDS maintains an archive of all data collected through the use of EOL platforms or data-collection systems. CDS serves as an initial contact for all user requests, working then with the other groups within EOL to ensure that a user's needs are met.

NCAR/EOL Automated Data Retrieval:
EOL/CDS maintains a web based tool that allows data retrieval from the mass store. Most EOL data from calendar year 2000 and beyond are accessible from this tool. Some older datasets are also available.

EOL/RAF Project Data Catalog:
EOL/RAF maintains a site with online bitfile logs that allow users to find NCAR aircraft data on the NCAR/SCD Mass Store System by project name or number.

EOL/SSSF Surface Data Archive:
Project reports and data links for surface datasets from ISFF, PAM and ASTER.

NCAR/EOL Codiac system:
Atmospheric, meteorological, and other geophysical datasets from operational sources and the scientific research programs for which NCAR/EOL and UCAR/JOSS have provided data management support.

Cooperative Arctic Data and Information System (CADIS):
Supports the Arctic Observing Network (AON). It is a portal for data discovery, and provide near-real-time data delivery, a repository for data storage, and tools to manipulate AON data.
