Jorgen is a Scientist III and the leader of the Scientific Projects Management Group at RAF. For more than 25 years, he has been involved in airborne research of clouds, turbulence, biomass fires, large-scale distribution of trace gases and instrumentation.
Research: Currently Jorgen's main research focus is on the interaction between aerosols, clouds, and precipitation formation. As a member of NCAR's Earth Observation Laboratory, he builds aerosol instruments, uses them on aircraft to measure aerosol particles, analyzes the data, and publishes the results. He also develops detailed mathematical models of the growth of cloud and precipitation particles, and he has developed a parameterization of warm rain formation that are suitable for implementation into large-scale weather and climate models.
Project Management: The Scientific Projects Management Group organizes NSF sponsored field deployments of the C-130 and GV aircraft for university users and the larger atmospheric sciences communities.
